SOUNDSCAPE TO IMAGE
Are we living in a new 'industrial age' is an ARU publication (available from June).
Audio-Visual Industrialised Environments The work here is an experimental collaboration of audio-visual or visual-audio, by Krisztián Hofstädter (audio) and Shameela Beeloo (visual). The visual work was created using photographs as the primary source which were then developed to create abstract images in which architectural shapes and forms take over. The images are representative of the industrialised society that we live in today, in which machines manufacture everything and humans are no longer needed. The abstraction of the music is symbolic of the images. The sonification is representative of the type of sounds, which would be heard in an industrialized environment. Low frequencies sound the constant throb of machinery and the higher pitched noises represent the mechanics in motion, the clanging of metal, or fabrication process of a product.
Audio by Krisztián Hofstädter This sonification project uses ixiQuarks’ granular synthesis. ixiQuarks is an audio software designed for live improvisation. The front sounds are arranged over a sound recording and an instrumental composition from Logic Pro (a digital-audio workstation). The outcome is an ambient, dark and industrial sound which is a personal translation of the images, a work of digital synaesthesia.
